WHAT?
The Camino de Santiago (Saint James Way) is an 774KM (481 Miles) pilgrimage trail.
WHERE?
It runs through northern Spain, starting in St Jean-Pied-du-Port, France on the border with Spain and runs to Santiago de Compostela in the northwestern Spanish province of Galicia.
HOW?
Most "pilgrims" travel the Camino on foot, but it can also be completed on a mountain bike. It can be accomplished in 31-34 days walking or 10 - 12 days biking. It can also be divided into multiple smaller trips if time does not allow completion of the WHOLE Camino in one shot.
WHY?
-- For spiritual reasons.
-- To check-off an item on a "Bucket List."
-- For an athletic achievement.
HISTORY?
The legend is that the Apostle James is buried in the Cathedral in city of Santiago de Compostela. During the Middle Ages, when it was too dangerous to do a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, Christians started going to Santiago. For more history click HERE.
